Amazon.com Inc. ( AMZN ) on Wednesday said it plans to hire more than 2,500 full-time workers at order-fulfillment centers across the country.

The jobs include picking, packing and shipping customer orders, and they are available at centers in Chester, Va.; Dupont, Wash.; Coffeyville, Kan.; Murfreesboro, Tenn.; Columbia, S.C.; and Petersburg, Va.

Last year, Amazon said, it hired more than 20,000 people into full-time jobs at its U.S. fulfillment centers. More than half had started as seasonal employees, the company said.

As of Dec. 31, the company had 117,300 full- and part-time employees.
