Alpha Natural Resources Posts $2.2Bln Q2 Loss Wider Than Ests, Sales Beat -Shares Pop 10% From Low Levels

Alpha Natural Resources, Inc. ( ANR ) is up 10% at $6.96, off the day's high $7 after it reported a Q2 loss, excluding restructuring, asset impairment and other charges, of $0.33 per share, wider than Zack's estimates of a loss of $0.30. This was much lower than the year-ago earnings of 97 cents per share.

ANR's reported a Q2 net loss of $2.2 billion, or $10.14 per share, compared with a year-earlier loss of $50 million, or $0.32 per share.

Revenues for Q2 2012 came in at $1.8 bln, ahead of Zack's estimates of $1.7 bln.

ANR trades in a 52-week range of $5.75 - $35.15. Shares have decreased 77% in the last 12 months.
