Agilent Technologies Inc.
(
A
) launched the oscilloscope industry's first eye-diagram mask
testing capability for the differential Controller Area Network
serial bus. This device is used extensively for control and sensor
monitoring in automotive applications and in a broad range of
industrial and medical equipment applications.
Oscilloscopes are used in various technical fields. First, they
play an important role in the analysis of video quality in
televisions and for monitoring vital functions in electrocardiogram
and electroencephalogram instruments. They are also used for
testing various automotive applications (analyzing ignition sparks
in atomotive engines for instance).
Eye-diagram mask testing is one of the most important ways
scientists measure the overall signal quality of their serial bus
networks. The CAN eye-diagram test helps in single measurement that
provides insight into the overall signal integrity. This testing
device has helped engineers to perform a composite signal-integrity
measurement of their CAN buses in one easy measurement.
The oscilloscope market is forecasted to reach $1.5 billion by
2014, as per research conducted by Frost & Sullivan as there
has been a surge in demand coupled with the introduction of new
products in the markets. Agilent is trying to increase its market
share as there has been an unprecedented rise in demand for
wireless connectivity, data bandwidth and energy-related
products.
Agilent's revenue was up 6.0% sequentially and 3.3% year over
year, better than management's expectations of a 4-5% sequential
increase ($1.70 billion to $1.72 billion).
Management is trying to grow its market share by introducing new
products and fight off competition from companies like
Teradyne
(
TER
),
Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc.
(
TMO
) and
Danaher Corp.
(
DHR
) among others.
Currently, Agilent has a Zacks Rank #3, implying a short-term
Hold recommendation.
