Activision Blizzard Inc.
(
ATVI
) is set to display some of its upcoming titles at the San Diego
Comic-Con International 2012, scheduled on July 14, 2012. At the
event, gamers will have the opportunity to interact with the
developers and the people associated with Activision's upcoming
titles. The titles included in the event are
TRANSFORMERS: FALL OF CYBERTRON
, the new Bond game
007 Legends
and
The Walking Dead
.
Moreover, the event would feature
The Amazing Spider-Man
game, which is an epilogue of the namesake movie. The game features
Web Rush mechanic technology, which allows players to show a host
of new moves in the game.
Gamers will get to watch the demo version of
TRANSFORMERS: FALL OF CYBERTRON
, where they can create their own characters and fight as AUTOBOT
or DECEPTICON and take control of CYBERTRON, the war-torn home of
the transformers. Activision will also showcase trailers of the
James Bond game -
007 Legends
. The game features five classic Bond adventures and a sixth
mission, which will be seen in the upcoming Bond movie-SKYFALL.
The Walking Dead
is based on AMC Network's popular television show bearing the same
title. Set in the zombie-infested Georgian countryside, the new
game is based on the adventures of two brothers on their way to
Atlanta. Apart from the protagonist, the new game features a host
of new characters who are either friend or foe and players have to
carefully select them as companions. Further, players are also
required to manage scarce resources in order to survive the zombie
attacks along their way to safety.
Looking at Activisions' portfolio of games, it is evident that
the company is set for a strong 2012. Most importantly,
Activision's foray into the mobile gaming market is expected to be
a long-term positive.
However, the softness in the video game industry and increasing
competition from
Electronic Arts Inc.
(
EA
) and
Take-Two Interactive Software Inc.
(
TTWO
) remains a concern. Moreover, overdependence on the old
franchises, particularly on
Call of Duty
and
World of Warcraft
, are the other headwinds going forward.
We have a Neutral recommendation on Activision in the long term.
Currently, Activision Blizzard has a Zacks #3 Rank, which implies a
Hold rating in the short term.
