) announced that it received an approval from Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for a
Boeing 747-400 Oxygen System Retrofit. The approval was obtained by
well-deserved AAR Engineering Services for advanced engineering
capability demonstrated with innovative design.
The oxygen system of 747-400, modified by AAR, will now provide
additional, supernumerary occupants with quick-donning oxygen
masks. The newly modified design is also anticipated to increase
the aircraft's total oxygen capacity for providing more than 180
minutes of oxygen in the event of cabin depressurization due to
smoke or fire.
Ron Eaton, Vice President, AAR Engineering Services was pleased
to announce that the retrofit, which offers safer means of
supplying supplemental oxygen, will also reduce weight of cargo
aircraft, replacing portable oxygen bottles.
AAR Engineering Services, which is engaged in providing a wide

specializes in interior reconfigurations, structural and systems
modifications, and avionics upgrades. All these require regulatory
agency approvals, viz FAA. With this FAA approval, any other
airline, operating B747 aircraft in a freighter configuration, may
use and benefit from AAR's modified oxygen system.
