AAR's Oxygen System Gets Approval - Analyst Blog

Last week, AAR Corp ( AIR ) announced that it received an approval from Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for a Boeing 747-400 Oxygen System Retrofit. The approval was obtained by well-deserved AAR Engineering Services for advanced engineering capability demonstrated with innovative design.

The oxygen system of 747-400, modified by AAR, will now provide additional, supernumerary occupants with quick-donning oxygen masks. The newly modified design is also anticipated to increase the aircraft's total oxygen capacity for providing more than 180 minutes of oxygen in the event of cabin depressurization due to smoke or fire.

Ron Eaton, Vice President, AAR Engineering Services was pleased to announce that the retrofit, which offers safer means of supplying supplemental oxygen, will also reduce weight of cargo aircraft, replacing portable oxygen bottles.

AAR Engineering Services, which is engaged in providing a wide range of high-quality, cost-effective technical services, specializes in interior reconfigurations, structural and systems modifications, and avionics upgrades. All these require regulatory agency approvals, viz FAA. With this FAA approval, any other airline, operating B747 aircraft in a freighter configuration, may use and benefit from AAR's modified oxygen system.

Building on advanced engineering competence and design proficiency, AAR strives to reinforce its position in the industry, wherein the big banners such as Goodrich Corp ( GR ), Boeing Co ( BA ) and Lockheed Martin Corporation ( LMT ) have revealed their successful play-offs.

We currently maintain a long-term Underperform recommendation on the stock. Also, AIR carries a Zacks # 5 Rank, which translates into a short-term (1-3 months) Strong Sell rating.
