A Look at CBS' Digital Properties

By Trefis June 10, 2011, 06:55:40 AM EDT

A recent article in The New York Times discussed CBS' ( CBS ) online video show. The article commented, " The live Web show "What's Trending" at cbsnews.com, an attempt to build a news-and-chat program driven by social networking - sort of a digital "Today" - is a self-consciously experimental project. " The program offers a different format for news, a bold attempt to further leverage the social media aspect. Digital properties are becoming increasingly important to CBS as it ratchets up the competition with rivals like Disney ( DIS ), News Corp. (NASDAQ:NWS), Time Warner (NYSE:TWX) and Viacom (NYSE:VIA).

These digital properties include several websites owned by CBS which currently constitute about 4.2% to its value by our estimates. While this contribution may be low, indirect impacts of increased engagement and brand building through this medium could include spur increased viewership for the company's more prominent channels.

Our price estimate for CBS stands at $27.49 , implying a premium to market price.
