Massachusetts-based medical instruments manufacturer
Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc.
) recently announced that it has procured the coveted R&D 100
Awards, widely recognized as the "Oscars of Innovation" for three
of its scientific analytical instruments. These include Thermo
Scientific Delta Ray, Thermo Scientific RIIDEye X and Thermo
Scientific Dionex ERS 500.
Following the news, Thermo Fisher's share price gained 1.7% to
eventually close at $121.00 on Friday.
The R&D Magazine is an online publication that makes
available informative and technical articles to research scientists
and interested technical associates across the globe. It sponsors
the R&D 100 Awards, which identifies the top 100 revolutionary
technologies introduced in the market each year.
Thermo Scientific Delta Ray
Thermo Fisher, in an attempt to provide better health care to
its customers, is engaged in constant innovation of analytical
instruments, lab equipments and specialty diagnostics that offer
accurate and rapid patient outcomes. The Thermo Scientific Delta
Ray is an isotope ratio infrared spectrometer (IRIS) which
incorporates a universal reference interface (URI) and is utilized
to scan volcanos, green house gases, plant ecology, and carbon
capture and storage by scientists. Its URI provides sample
referencing and comparison of CO2 analyses.
This spectrometer, with the help of an optional dilution box,
has the ability to analyze samples with CO2 concentration, ranging
between 220 parts per million (ppm) to 100%. It has the potential
to terminate complications that arise during transferring samples
from the field to the lab and thus provides real-time outcomes to
Thermo Scientific RIIDEye X
This is an intuitive high performance radiation isotope
identifier (RIID) that has been designed for fast and easy
identification of gamma and neutron radiation sources. This
handheld detector can accurately locate the presence, type and
quantity of radioactive materials in real time, under harsh
This improved RIIDEye X can identify special materials after 30
seconds and is the only device that can survive 3-foot drops onto
concrete. It is thus typically utilized by military personnel,
first responders and field-based researchers, mostly in response to
potential public health and safety threats.
Thermo Scientific Dionex ERS 500
The Thermo Scientific Dionex ERS 500 is a high capacity next
generation ion chromatography (IC) suppressor that removes
conductive ions from eluents by increasing analyte signaling. At
the same time, it reduces background signal and noise. It is the
first electrolytically regenerated suppressor that does not require
any chemical reagent during IC analysis.
This high backpressure resilient suppressor is available in 2 mm
and 4mm formats and can effectively analyze varied scale of IC
applications. It improves peak efficiency, particularly when
coupled with 4μm columns and has been devised for use in
environmental, food and beverage, and pharmaceutical markets.
Management at Thermo Fisher is enthusiastic about the receipt of
the R&D 100 Awards. Notably, Thermo Fisher's commitment toward
technology development and innovation forms a crucial ingredient of
its growth strategy.
Currently, Thermo Fisher carries a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell). Some
better-ranked medical instrument stocks that warrant a look include
Heartware International Inc.
). While Masimo sports a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), Accuray and
Heartware International hold a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy) each.
