Nasdaq Announces Title Sponsorship of Miami Tennis Event

Nasdaq-100 Open New Name Of World's Fifth-Largest Tennis Tournament In Six-Year Deal Beginning March 2002

New York, NY— Nasdaq Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Wick Simmons today joined Tournament Chairman Earl "Butch" Buchholz and tennis legends Martina Navratilova and Rod Laver in a ceremony held at Nasdaq MarketSite to announce Nasdaq's title sponsorship of the world's fifth-largest tennis tournament, the Nasdaq-100 Open. The agreement is for six years, beginning with the 2002 event, which will be held March 20-31 at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park in Miami, Florida.

The Nasdaq-100 Open features over 200 of the world's top men's and women's professionals and ranks as the largest tennis event outside of the Grand Slams in terms of attendance (270,000 in 2001), prize money ($6,395,000 in 2002), player participation (96 men, 96 women compete in respective singles draws), credentialed media (over 800 journalists) and duration (12 days). The event, which is in its 18th year, is an elite Tennis Masters Series event on the ATP (men's) circuit and top-tier event on the Sanex WTA TOUR (women's).

"The Nasdaq-100 Open is one of the most visible events in tennis, with global reach and dynamism," said Simmons. "As the world's largest stock market, listing many of its most exciting companies, we believe our sponsorship of the Nasdaq-100 Open will provide many new opportunities to reach out to investors. We're very proud to be the title sponsor."

"We are thrilled with this new relationship with such a dynamic partner," said Buchholz. "The tournament is proud to be associated with Nasdaq and its family of international companies that are so widely respected."

The Nasdaq-100 Open is named for the Nasdaq-100 Index Tracking Stock, or QQQ, which is the most actively traded security in the world.
